Reporter brief
Exergame plus resistance training increased physical activity and exercise confidence in older adults with cognitive frailty, RCT.
What happened
In this 12-week randomized trial of 79 community-dwelling older adults with cognitive frailty, participants assigned to exergaming combined with elastic band resistance training (3 sessions/week, 50 min each) showed significantly greater improvements in physical activity (IPAQ-SF +586.1 MET-min/week, 95% CI 454.5–717.7) and exercise self-efficacy (SEE +3.3, 95% CI 2.4–4.2) compared to routine health education alone. The intervention group achieved 86.5% adherence, and qualitative interviews (n=13) identified themes of enhanced enjoyment, positive health perceptions, and improved social interaction.
