Reporter brief

RCT of resistance training with behavioral therapy and nutrition guidance in older adults with overweight/obesity

Download chart PNG

A 16-week randomized controlled trial assigned older adults (≥60 years) with low physical activity and excess body fat to one of three groups: resistance training alone, resistance training plus weekly cognitive behavioral therapy, or resistance training plus cognitive behavioral therapy plus weekly nutritional guidance for higher protein intake. The study aimed to assess changes in body composition, muscle strength and function, metabolic and vascular health, cognitive function, and psychological outcomes, with results to be compared across the three groups to determine whether adding behavioral and nutritional components to resistance training provided additional benefits.
