Reporter brief

Senolytic drug reduced bacterial burden in vitro model of chronic intracellular infection

Download chart PNG

An in vitro study examined how Mycobacterium abscessus infection induces senescence in alveolar macrophages through DNA damage signalling, which then spreads to neighboring cells via paracrine SASP secretion. Treatment with the senolytic drug Navitoclax selectively eliminated senescent cells and reduced bacterial burden to levels similar to antibiotic treatment.
