What it does not prove

  • The abstract does not report any results, so it is unclear whether either GLP-1 agonist affected epigenetic aging or related biomarkers.
  • The open-label design means participants and clinicians knew which treatment was given, creating potential for bias in subjective measures.
  • The 24-week study period may be insufficient to detect meaningful changes in epigenetic aging, and comparison to metformin rather than placebo limits interpretation of drug-specific effects.

Abstract or registry material supplied for assessment; source version 1. This is not a claim of full-text review.

This study is a prospective, randomized, open-label clinical trial enrolling 66 adults with simple obesity who have not used weight-loss medications for at least 3 months.
Participants will receive semaglutide, tirzepatide, or metformin for 24 weeks.
Changes in 'biological (epigenetic) age' will be assessed using the iWatchAge DNA methylation age test, while simultaneously monitoring improvements in aging-related biomarkers such as inflammatory factors, metabolic parameters, and body composition.
