What it does not prove

  • This abstract reports only the study protocol and eligibility criteria, not outcomes or findings, so no conclusions about efficacy can be drawn. The study was designed to test NR in healthy volunteers only, not in the diabetic participants, limiting generalizability to people with metabolic disease. Whether any observed changes in fat oxidation or metabolic rate translate to clinically meaningful benefits for fatty liver disease or weight management is not addressed.

Recorded source passages

Abstract or registry material supplied for assessment; source version 1. This is not a claim of full-text review.

Men aged 18 to 65 and women aged 18 to 50 who are healthy volunteers with a body mass index (height to weight ratio) of 25 or more.
Only healthy volunteers will take the NR, for 14 days at a time, during 1 clinic stay. During their other stay, they will take placebos; these are pills that look like the study supplement but contain no NR.
During each clinic stay, all participants will eat a normal American diet. Then they will eat a ketogenic "low-carb" diet for 5 days.
