What it does not prove
- The abstract does not state what effects, if any, were observed on diaphragm thickness, hepatic fat, or quality of life, so no claims can be made about the intervention's efficacy
- The study's small sample size (n=30) and short four-week duration limit generalizability to longer-term resistance training effects or diverse older populations
- The mechanism by which resistance training might affect diaphragm function or hepatic fat in aging is not explained

This randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of a four-week moderate-intensity resistance training program on diaphragm thickness, hepatic fat density, and health-related quality of life in healthy community-dwelling older men aged 60-75 years.
Thirty participants were randomly assigned to a resistance training group or control group.
The primary outcome was change in diaphragm thickness. Secondary exploratory outcomes included hepatic fat density and SF-12 physical and mental health scores.
