Resistance training trial tests whether exercise mitigates muscle loss in transgender women receiving estrogen therapy
This prospective pilot RCT randomized participants initiating or recently initiated on estrogen-dominant gender-affirming hormone therapy 1:1 to a 12-week at-home resistance exercise intervention or control (nutritional and exercise counseling only). Muscle mass, strength, and function were assessed before and after the intervention period, with survey measures of gender congruence also collected.
